I've never heard of this idea until today - setting a theme word for your year. I've joined the Ultimate Blog Challenge, just as a way to keep myself motivated to blog regularly, and one of the suggestions today was writing about a theme word for your new year.
My theme word for 2013 is Simplicity.
The October Dress Project taught me a lot about the way I live and the things I own. I own way, way too much, most of which I do not need or even want. But getting rid of some things are hard; you convince yourself you should keep x, y and z because it might come in handy one day, or so-and-so gave it to you, or you don't want to waste it, or you don't know how to get rid of it. Yet it's all stuff that is just cluttering up your home and your life and really has no purpose for you.
This year I'm aiming to clear out, streamline, and live simply. When I shop, I'll think not only 'Do I really need this?' but also 'In what ways will I actually use this? Is it something I just really like or is it something that would be of value to me?' I want to create a much more simplified life for myself and my family.
This also includes taking on too many projects and responsibilities. Realistically, I'm always going to be taking on too many projects and responsibilities, but as I've said for several years now, I need to cut back. I'm not sure how well I'll accomplish this part of my resolve for the new year, but it needs to be a small part of it.
So, for 2013, my theme word is Simplicity, in as many forms as it may grow to take on.
I want to hear your thoughts. What's YOUR theme word for 2013? Leave comments in the section below!
